Metabolism Explained is an educational publication for readers who want clear, scientifically serious explanations of metabolism, peptide hormones and metabolic research. Our guiding question is straightforward: what biological process is being discussed, what evidence supports the claim, and what does that evidence not yet prove?

How we assess evidence

We prioritize original peer-reviewed research and primary medical or scientific authorities. For technical or time-sensitive topics, such as medicine approvals, prescribing information, safety warnings, trial status and published results, we use current primary documentation rather than relying on older articles, search snippets or company summaries.

Evidence types answer different questions. Cell and biochemical research can help explain a mechanism, but cannot establish a benefit in people. Animal studies may support a hypothesis without showing the same result in humans. Observational human studies can identify associations, but usually cannot prove cause and effect. Controlled human trials generally provide stronger evidence when their comparator, endpoints and follow-up are appropriate.

When a clinical trial matters to a conclusion, we aim to explain who took part, what was compared, how long the study lasted, which outcomes were measured and what limitations could change the interpretation. Results from separate trials are not treated as direct comparisons unless the interventions were randomized head-to-head.

Research, supplier information and firsthand work

A researched guide combines evidence with editorial judgment: our explanation of what the available research reasonably supports. Manufacturer or supplier material may establish that company’s stated specifications, availability or position, but it is supplier information—not independent proof of effectiveness, safety or equivalence. We describe firsthand testing, interviews or practical experience only when that work is documented. Readers should not assume every product discussed has been personally tested.

Recommendations and boundaries

Our recommendations and interpretations should reflect the quality, relevance and limits of the evidence—not a promising mechanism or a dramatic headline. Important conditions, study populations and unresolved questions belong in the conclusion when they meaningfully change what a finding means.

We keep endogenous hormones, approved prescription medicines, investigational compounds, compounded products, supplements and research-use-only materials distinct. Research-use-only materials are not presented as treatments for people. Metabolism Explained is educational and does not provide individualized diagnosis, treatment selection, dosing, self-administration or acquisition guidance.
